The person is always more important than their story.
This is the fundamental approach that I take in my craft of documentary filmmaking. That does not mean that I shy away from the tough questions or the controversial topics. I believe that the most powerful stories authentically address the hard truths of the human experience—a tension that is both uncomfortable and beautiful at the same time. However, that requires trust and a genuine relationship that can enter into those difficult but honest places. Building that relationship is my first goal. As much as I view myself as a filmmaker, I consider myself a pastor and counselor. We are going to press into the hard conversations, but not without love and gentleness.
This method creates powerful stories.
My story
In 2013, I moved to Austin, Texas in pursuit of becoming a documentary filmmaker—a career path which combined my background in journalism with my passion for filmmaking. By God’s grace, I found creative mentors who took me under their wing and showed me the ropes. Since then, I have had the privilege of working on many different styles of content from documentaries and live music performances to podcast storytelling, commercials, and equipping resources.
I currently work fulltime as a filmmaker on a creative team, but I also regularly work as a freelance cinematographer, and as a director and producer for clients of my own. I love storytelling and working with other artists to bring ideas to reality.
